Education

Library: Houses valuable reference materials and continues to add new books yearly. It is a quiet, pleasant atmosphere to browse, read books or study.  Key Contact: Louanne Bachner, 404-296-4503 bachner@juno.com.

Parish School of Religion for Children (in English):  Religious education classes for four year-olds through 10th grade held on Sunday mornings and Thursday afternoons during the school year and taught by volunteer catechists. The schedules are:

Sundays from 10:45am-12:00noon:

  • Kindergarten to 9th grades.
  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Montessori based program): Level I for 4 & 5 year olds.

Sundays from 12:30pm-2:00pm:

  • Confirmation sessions, 10th grade

Thursdays from 4:00pm-5:30pm

  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Level I and Level II

Parish School of Religion for Children (in Spanish):  Level 1 Classes for 4 & 5 year olds, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Montessori based program) and Religious Education classes for grades 1 to 5 are held on Saturdays 9:30am-10:45am and 11:15am – 12:30pm. RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a program for people interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. Classes begin in September and meet on Sundays from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon. Those who complete the program are received into the Church during the Easter Vigil services. RICA: Children and Adults in Spanish Children older than 11 who need baptism meet on Saturdays at 11:15am. Adults who desire the Sacraments of Initiation meet on Sundays from 10:30am-12:30pm Key Contact: Aida Buzeta, 770-939-3501 ext. 235, abuzeta@holycrossatlanta.org.

Scripture Study: Study and reflection on the scripture readings for the upcoming Sunday Mass.  Classes are Wednesdays 10:45a.m.-12:00p.m. and 7:45p.m.-9:00p.m. in rooms 7 & 8.  Key Contact: Dr. Louanne Bachner, 404-296-4503 bachner@juno.com.

Sponsor Couples:  Married couples are trained to work with engaged couples in marriage preparation.  The engaged couple meets in the home of the Sponsor Couple for five (5) evenings.  The success of this program is the one-on-one sharing that allows the married couple to address the individual needs of the engaged couple.  Key Contact: Jim & Kris Chatfield, 770-414-9338, krischatfield@bellsouth.net.

Youth Ministry:  Total Youth Ministry is comprehensive ministry that reaches out to adolescents spiritually, socially, educationally and physically. Life Teen and Edge are the Youth Ministry programs we will be using to implement Total Youth Ministry.

  • The Life Teen program is a complete, comprehensive and interactive model of religious formation for high school age adolescents. Through youth friendly liturgies, Life Nights, weekly activities, service opportunities, leadership and outreach activities, teens learn more about their Catholic faith.
  • Edge is a Catholic middle school ministry for early adolescents in grades 6 through 8. It is designed to meet the catechetical, educational, spiritual and social needs of young adolescents. This creative and experiential approach to faith engages youth to understand Catholic teaching and form their catholic identity.
