April 12, 2011

Present:  Kris Chatfield, Donald Cirino, Joan Ford, Pat Reiley, Jim Miles, Donovan McGee, Jan Arias, Mercedes Arancibia, Tom Probst, Mark Galvin and Theresa O’Donnell.  Not Present: Fr. Richard, Carole Kissel

The meeting was opened with a prayer.

·         Review of Minutes – Revised minutes from the February and March minutes were reviewed.  Several changes were suggested, which Kris will incorporate.  Final copies will be sent to Donovan.

·         Memorial Garden – Donovan reported that he had a long discussion with Dick Suever regarding the status of the proposed Memorial Garden.  Dick has volunteered to work with Don Spelling to try and move the project forward.  Donovan and Lesley will stay on the committee, but work and family commitments are preventing them from continuing to spearhead the project.  Donovan has turned over all files and information to Dick.  Deacon Ray Eagen is coming to Holy Cross to meet with the Memorial Garden committee and any other interested people on April 26th.

·         Ministry Retreat/Contact Information – Donovan needs to obtain the most current ministry head list from Monique.  He also needs to contact Paul Montello about previous retreats held at Holy Cross.  Pat indicated that she had spoken to Barb Garvin regarding Archdiocesan resources, and Barb indicated that she can give us some recommendations.  She would like the Pastoral Council to focus in on a theme first so she can narrow her recommendations.  Mark recommended that we also come up with a concrete goal for the retreat, which may help us narrow down a speaker.  Several possible topics include parish unity, ministry participation, and training and replacement of leaders.  The question was raised as to how many parallel ministries there are at Holy Cross between the Spanish and English communities.  It was agreed that we need to identify these and see what coordination can begin to happen.  There was also discussion regarding the computer system at the parish and how much information is in there about participation in ministries.  Is the information up to date?  We need some definitive information from the office regarding what information is available to us.  Mark and Jim will meet to talk about pulling information from the system.

·         Religious Education – Don indicated that Barb is considering adding a 3rd CCD session for next year.  This will result in additional catechists needed to teach those classes, and we are already having difficulty finding people to teach.

·         Pentecost Potluck – Gina Burke can help organize, but only in a small fashion.  The issue of charging for tickets was raised.  Louanne Bachner has indicated that she feels we should not charge for tickets.  After much discussion, it was agreed that a small fee should be charged.  The church will provide the main dish and families can sign up to bring a side or a dessert.  Pat suggested that the Welcome Committee be involved in the sign-up and ticket sale process. Donovan will bring up the potluck at the next K of C meeting to see if the Knights will participate in some way.  Theresa suggested sending an Evite through the Faith Matters email list, in addition to pulpit and bulletin announcements.  We will also send flyers home through the CCD students.  Weather permitting, we will have tables set up outside.  Theresa and Jan will coordinate on behalf of the Pastoral Council.

·         Next Meeting – Our next meeting is scheduled for May 10, 2011 at 7:30pm.

Meeting was adjourned with a prayer.

Respectfully Submitted, Kris Chatfield
